Dot Thorn

Painter, sculptor, mosaic maker

Dot Thorn

Creating art brings me joy, and I hope that it brings joy to the viewer. My latest enthusiasm is mosaic, and for me, as usual, it’s all about colour.

I’ve been painting for around thirty-five years. I started as a figurative painter. But over time, my work has become freer and more imaginative, and whimsical. I also make sculptures from wire, wood, rocks, and found objects (junk).

About my work

Is there a link between gardening and your creative practice?

Lots of wild, improbable flowers, nests, eggs, and seedpods regularly feature in my work.

What will you show and share on the day?

I’ll bring a selection of my paintings and mosaics.

What's in your veggie patch?

Veggie avatar

A tomato – brightly coloured, loves the sun, can be eaten straight away in the garden (I don’t enjoy cooking).

Where will we find you?

I’ll be in Janet Wylie’s Urban Farm
