Lowe's Lifestyle
Twelve years ago, Trevor and Jen Lowe began converting a two-acre paddock into their home block. Today the house and garden occupy around half their land.
The Lowes have achieved their goal of growing all the fruit and vegetables they need, and they do loads of preserving and freezing. Besides their burgeoning food garden, Trevor and Jen have an extensive ornamental garden filled with roses, camellias, irises, and natives. Trevor does most of their garden maintenance.

In our food garden
Vegetables: Beans, tomatoes, potatoes, sweetcorn, beetroot, capsicum.
Fruit: peaches, apples, nectarines, citrus, berries (6 varieties).
Various herbs.
Standout sustainable practices
We plant two rows of beans at a time to give us a continuous supply from December until April. We use a three-bay compost bin. As we use tank water exclusively, our flower garden is watered automatically using recycled water.
Top tip for novice gardeners
Have separate beds so that you can rotate your veggies from year to year and grow a green manure crop once a year.
Look out for
The chooks in our fully enclosed orchard.
For sale on the day
