Liz's Garden
After 30 years as a certified organic veggie, berry and fruit grower, the time came for Liz Clay to park the tractor, sell the farm and move into town. Three years ago she bought a vacant block of land in Warragul, built a house and started a veggie garden, transitioning from professional grower to backyarder. Liz’s garden has native vegetation in the front to attract the little birds and beneficial insects, and veggies, fruit and berries out in the sunny back yard with a bit of exotica for fun in-between.
In our food garden
I love the diversity of all fruits and veggies. I love hanging out for my berries to ripen, having salad all year round, and Brussel sprouts from April through to October. I feel very smug about my winter time veggies and admire the longevity and yield of sprouting broccoli. Having a productive garden year round with plenty to share is what life’s all about.
Standout sustainable practices
I build healthy soil, grow a diverse range of food year-round using organic methods, plant natives to support birds and beneficial insects, and share my harvest with family and friends.
Top tip for novice gardeners
The soil is everything, build your soil and have a go.

They will know I've fallen in love with the simplicity of Japanese gardens. Not much chop for eating but lovely nevertheless.
